This page explains how to get help with parlance, what to expect when you contact us, and answers to the questions we are asked most often. parlance is a design-to-code contract platform: it audits design files, code, live products and native apps against UI contracts, glossaries, design tokens and accessibility standards. If you are looking for how we handle your personal data, see our privacy policy; for the terms governing your use of the service, see our terms of service.
Get help
The fastest way to reach us is by email at support@parlancelabs.net. We are a small team and we read every message ourselves. We aim to acknowledge your email within two business days, and usually sooner. Response and resolution times depend on the complexity of the issue; these are targets we work to rather than contractual commitments, unless a specific service level has been agreed with you in writing.
To help us resolve your request quickly, please include where relevant: the product you are using (the parlance platform on the web, or the parlance auditor app on Apple devices), your workspace name, a description of what happened and what you expected, the steps to reproduce it, and a screenshot if it helps. For the auditor app, telling us your device and operating system version (for example, iOS, iPadOS, macOS or visionOS) helps us a great deal.
You can also browse our documentation at parlance documentation, which covers contracts, audits, glossaries, design tokens and connecting the extensions and the auditor app to your account.
Frequently asked questions
What is the parlance auditor app?
The parlance auditor is a companion app for Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro) that lets you audit live websites for accessibility and contract conformance directly on the device. It includes a built-in browser: you navigate to a page, run an audit, and review the findings in place. Results can be saved to your parlance account so they appear alongside your other audits on the platform.
How do I connect the app to my account?
The auditor signs in to your parlance account using an API key, which you generate on the platform. You can enter the key by hand or, to move between your own devices quickly, scan a QR code: the app uses your camera only to read the code on the device, and no photo or video is captured, stored or transmitted. Your API key is held securely in the device Keychain and is sent only to the parlance API to authenticate your requests. It is not synced to iCloud. You can disconnect at any time, which removes the key from the device.
What do the auditing tools do?
The auditor includes several tools for inspecting a page as you browse:
- Contrast picker. Sample any two points on the page to measure the colour contrast ratio between them and check it against WCAG 2.2 thresholds for text and non-text content.
- Element inspector. Tap an element to see its role, accessible name, attributes and the contract clauses or accessibility checks that apply to it.
- Issue overlay. Highlight findings in context, drawn directly over the elements they relate to, so you can see what failed and where without leaving the page.
- Reader mode. Strip a page back to its core content to check reading order, structure and legibility, and to experience the page closer to how assistive technologies present it.
What data does the auditor app collect?
When you run and save an audit, the app sends the URL you chose to audit and the resulting findings to the parlance API, recorded against your account so you can return to them later. Your API key is sent with each request to authenticate you. App preferences, such as the auto-audit toggle and browser settings, are stored locally on the device only. The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics software, does not track you across other apps or websites, and uses your camera solely to read QR codes on the device. For the full picture, see our privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Audits and findings you have saved are tied to your parlance account. To remove an individual audit, delete it from the platform or from the app. To remove your account, you can deactivate it from your account settings on the platform: on deactivation your account is scheduled for deletion and your personal data is permanently erased thirty days later. If you only want to disconnect a device, remove the API key in the auditor app; this deletes the key from that device’s Keychain without affecting your account. If you would like us to action a deletion or data-access request on your behalf — including removing audit content held in a workspace you own — email us at support@parlancelabs.net and we will complete it for you.
What is the parlance platform?
The platform is the web application at the heart of parlance. It is where you create workspaces, define UI contracts, manage glossaries and design tokens, run audits against design files, code and live products, and review and assign the issues they surface. It is also where you invite teammates, manage roles and connect the extensions and the auditor app.
How do I invite my team?
Workspace owners and administrators can invite teammates by email from the workspace members settings. Invitations are sent by email and expire after seven days; an invitee accepts by following the link and signing in or creating an account. Roles determine what each member can see and do within the workspace.
How do the extensions and integrations connect?
The parlance extensions for Figma, your browser, VS Code and the command line, along with the auditor app, all authenticate using an API key generated on the platform. You can create, name and revoke keys from your account settings. Revoking a key immediately stops any client that was using it. See the documentation for setup guides for each integration.
How is my content used?
The design files, code references and live product URLs you connect are processed only to run audits against your contracts. We do not use your content to train models, and we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to your audits. Full details, including the processors we rely on and how long data is kept, are set out in our privacy policy.
Report a bug or request a feature
We want to hear when something is not working, and we welcome ideas for what parlance should do next. Email us at support@parlancelabs.netwith “bug” or “feature request” in the subject line. For a bug, a clear description, the steps to reproduce it, what you expected, what you saw, and a screenshot or screen recording all help us fix it faster. For a feature request, tell us the problem you are trying to solve as well as the solution you have in mind — understanding the underlying need often leads us somewhere better.
Reporting a security issue
If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in parlance, please report it to us privately at security@parlancelabs.net rather than disclosing it publicly. We will acknowledge your report, investigate promptly, and keep you informed while we work on a fix. We are grateful to everyone who helps us keep parlance and its users safe.
